Chiefland police make prostitution arrest By Terry Witt Staff Writer An undercover investigation by the Chiefland Police Department led to the arrest Friday of a Chiefland man who investigators said had been advertising prostitution over the Internet. Arthur Ramos, 319 S.W. 10th Circle, was using Craigslist, an Internet site, to develop prostitution clients. He told police after his arrest that prostitution is the oldest profession and he saw nothing wrong with what he was doing. ,,; ,Au Arrested with Ramos was Jessie Eugene Young, 35, who police described as a lookout for Ramos at Room 216 at the Holiday Inn Express. Police Chief Robert Douglas announced the arrest of Ramos at Monday's City Commission meeting. "It's a shame to me we got this mess in town. I really want to get rid of it," Douglas said. Police said they received a tip from an individual indicating Ramos was conducting prostitution from his home and that one of the main sources of contact for his prostitution business was Craigslist, an Internet web site. An undercover officer found an advertisement posted on Craigslist showing a picture of Ramos. The advertisement listed a service in the "casual encounters" portion of the personals section. It said Ramos specialized in "Man Rubs." He listed his fictitious name as Helen Bedd. The officer contacted Ramos by Gmail, a free Internet e-mail service, identifying himself by a false name and claiming he was a married man looking for a "discreet full service encounter." The street definition of the term "full .evy County's Most Wante service" means sex in all forms. Ramos and the undercover officer corresponded by e-mail about the price of the prostitution services. They agreed to $250 per hour. Officers set up a stakeout in room 216 of the Holiday Inn Express where Ramos and the undercover officer had agreed to meet for sex. When they met in the room, Ramos demanded the money first before he would engage in sex with the man he thought was a prostitution client. When the money changed hands and Ramos went to the bathroom, task force officers in an adjoining room came forward. They were met by Jessie Y' ong who Yad been posted as a lookout, city police said. Young was taken to the ground. Officers searched him and found cigarette pack containing a hand rolled green leafy cigarette which tested positive as (marijuana. They also found a folding knife, two cell phones and a piece of paper with the undercover officer's phone number on it in Young's pockets. "Further investigations revealed that Ramos has been possibly working prostitution out of his residence at 319 S.W. 101 Circle for approximately three years," an arrest report said. Ramos.dhad an advertisement listed with an online escort service. The ad carried reviews by prior customers. One customer's review of services was posted in 2006. The act of prostitution allegedly took place at Ramos' home. "Ramos spontaneously admitted numerous times to being a prostitute and that it was the oldest profession in the world and (he) did not see what the big deal was," the arrest report said. "Ramos also spontaneously stated that he has had a prostitution business in Miami." P KhalidE. Brown Williston FTA DWLSR Knowingly $10,000 Bond Carolyn A.
