Mr. Williams was born in Sandoval, Ill., on Feb. 24, 1928, to Luther and Bertha Williams. He moved to Chiefland 20 years ago from Clearwater, Fla. He was a Christian. He is preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Williams; a sister, Violet; and great-granddaughter, Amy Sanderlin. He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Phyllis Williams of Chiefland; daughters, Jackie (Jim) Sanderlin of Trenton, Fla., and Georgia Hall of Chiefland; son, Jeffery Dale (April) Williams of Chiefland; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Williams of Illinois; and a sister, Pauline O'Dell of Decatur, Ill. Funeral services were held, Monday, May 11, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Trenton First Baptist Church. Interment followed at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. LEROY "ROY" NETTLES Leroy "Roy" Nettles, 78, of Trenton, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at North Florida Regional Medical Center following an, extended illness. Roy was born in Gilchrist County on August 11, 1930, to R.J., and Lula Nettles. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Roy was a retired land surveyor and he attended Shady Grove Primitive Baptist Church: Roy is survived by his wife, Mildred Hunt Nettles; two daughters, Jean (Ron) Koltz and JoAnn (Darrell) Jacobs; a son, Wendell (Susan) Nettles; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; six sisters: Avey Philman, Dorene Bass, Maggie Hodge, Wilma Covington, Margie Bondurant, and Becky Tod d;'and a brother, Ray Nettles. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Shady Grove Primitive Baptist Church with Elder M. Herschel Griffin and Elder Rubert Nobles conducting the service. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Visitation was held on Thursday, May 7, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home. LU-ANN METCALFE CARDIN Lu-Ann Metcalfe Cardin, 52, passed away at her home peacefully and comfortably, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Lu-Ann was born on July 11, 1956, in Springfield,. Mass. She grew up in East Longmeadow, Mass., and graduated from Ludlow High School. She was the daughter of the late Joseph E. Metcalfe Jr. and the late Mary Moylan Metcalfe. Lu-Ann was a sergeant for the Department of Corrections. She loved her job and took pride in it. She was recognized for a heroic act in 2003 for the recapture of an escaped inmate. Lu-Ann also helped to establish several life-enhancement programs for the inmates while they were incarcerated. She saw potential in everyone. The glass was always half-full in her eyes. Lu-Ann battled cancer the last three-and-a-half years of her life. She was a very strong and determined woman. She fought until the very end. According to Lu-Ann it was "Give it your all, and never give up." Survivors include: her husband and the love of her life, Leonard Cardin of Winter Springs, Fla.; her two daughters, Katie Parks of Winter Springs and Kerry L. Ruvio and her husband, David L. Ruvio III of Bronson, Fla.; her two step-children, Rose Cardin of Palmer, Mass. and Edward Cardin of Three Rivers, Mass.; her brothers, Thomas Metcalfe of Winter Springs and Joseph E. Metcalfe III and his wife, Alison Metcalfe of Monson, Mass.; her sisters, Donna Le Page and her husband, Ray Le Page of Boynton Beach, Fla. and Patricia St. Amend of Ludlow, Mass.; seven grandchildren: Daniel and Timothy Jackson of Palmer, Mass., Samantha Cardin of Three Rivers, Mass., Autumn Boyd, Mackenzie Boyd, and Bailey Herring of Winter Springs, and Malina Ruvio of Bronson; and many, many wonderful friends. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Banfield Funeral Home located at 420 W. SR 434 in Winter Springs, FL 32708. Lu-Ann's family is also planning an additional memorial service to be celebrated in Massachusetts at a later date. ANNA L. WINNEN Anna L. Winnen, 87, of Bronson, Fla., passed away on May 6, 2009, after a short illness. Anna is survived by her children: Joyce Raines, (Stan Hoskins) of Archer, Fla., Bridgette Renaud, (Mel "Sarge" Persenaire) of Bronson, and Robert (Jane) Winnen ofAlabama. She also leaves to cherish her memory eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and fifth-generation great-great- grandchildren Caleb and Tyler. She lived most of her life as a dairy farmer in Horseshoe, N.C., and has resided in Williston, Fla., for the last eight years. KAREN JUNE MEYER Karen June Meyer, 68, of Williston, Fla., passed away on Sat. May 9, 2009, in Ocala, Fla., due to an extended illness. Born in Belmore, N.Y, she came to Williston in 1978. She was a registered nurse working in Williston at the Nature Coast Regional Hospital for many years. During her later years she was Director ofNursing. Karen was a horsewoman, belonging to the American Dressage Association, member of the Florida Whips, Florida Draft Horse, Pony, and Mule Association, She also showed combined-traininrg horses and show driving ponies. Karen is survived by her husband, Robert Meyer; two sons, Peter R. Meyer and Rafe P. Meyer; one sister, Sue E., Bradshaw; and one granddaughter, Alexandria Hope Meyer. JAMES EDWARD CRAIG Mr. James Edward Craig of Steinhatchee, Fla., passed away at his home Saturday, May 9, 2009, at the age of 84. Born in Fulton County, Georgia, Mr. Craig moved to Steinhatchee from Atlanta in 1973. He served in the United States Army as an E-4 in the anti-aircraft division during WWII. He then worked for Grady Hospital in Atlanta until moving to Steinhatchee. There he went to work for Georgia Pacific, retiring in 1996 after 19 years of service. He enjoyed going to flea markets and auctions. Mr. Craig was a member of the First Baptist Church of Steinhatchee. Mr. Craig is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Craig of Steinhatchee; sons, Jimmy Wayne Craig of Steinhatchee and James David Craig of Gainesville, Ga.; daughters, Joy Emrich and Tina Mitchell, both of Steinhatchee; brother, Mickey Craig of Gainesville, Ga.; sisters, Margie Peck of Norcross, Ga., andAggie Rebeano ofAtlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
