6 March 27, 2008 AROUND LEVY COUNTY Levy County Journal Community Events (The deadline for Community Events is 5 p.m. Friday) Airport Festival The City of Williston along with the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce will hold the 3rd Annual Williston Airport Recreational Fest and Aviation Fly Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Williston Airport. The event will feature static displays of old and new airplanes and biplanes, as well as Cessna 170 plane rides by LumartAviation. The annual event also features boats, antique cars, antique tractors and demonstrations by the Levy County Sheriff's Office including K-9 demos. The event will also include arts, crafts and food vendors and entertainment. Rain date will be March 30. Admission is $2 per person and parking is free. Tickets are on sale at Drummond Community Bank and Chiefland High School. Proceeds will go to benefit the March of Dimes, FBLA and CHS Drama Club for their efforts in making the event a success. Limestone mine scoping meeting The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a public meeting today at the Tommy Usher Community Center in Chiefland to receive comments on the scope of the Tarmac King Road Limestone Mine Environmental Impact Statement. The EIS is designed to evaluate the potential impacts of further rock mining in southern Levy County wetlands. The proposed area includes approximately 4,800 acres, of which 2,700 acres will be mined. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the actual meeting beginning at 6:15.
