Wildcats move to No. 1 By JIM O'CONNELL Associated Press Kentucky is back in a familiar place, and so is its coach. The Wildcats, the last unbeaten team in Division I, were a unanimous No. 1 in The Associated Press' college basketball poll on Monday, their first time on top since the final poll of 2002-03. Only three schools have been No. 1 more often. For first-year coach John Calipari,. Kentucky is, the third school he has taken to No. 1. He led Massachusetts to the top spot in 1994-95 and 1995-96, and Memphis in 2007-08. The Wildcats. (19-0) moved up one spot, replac- ing Texas (17-2), which was No. 1 for two weeks before losing to Kansas State and- Connecticut, both on the road. The Longhorns, who were ranked No. 1 for the first time in school history, dropped to sixth. Kentucky went into its game against Arkansas knowing it could move to No. 1 and the Wildcats responded with a 101-70 rout of the Razorbacks. "I knew they wanted to be ranked No. 1 and came out and really took it right at Arkansas," Calipari said Monday. Beardsley scored in the 35th minute and again in the 36th minute. The Broncos got their goal in then 65th minute. Columbia (19-4-1) will play the winner of tourna- ment host Ridgeview High and Wolfson High at 7 p.m. Wednesday. COLTS Continued From Page 1B depends on what happens to us this week," Caldwell said Monday. "We'll make some adjustments, it's not an iron-clad sort of routine. But, overall, we'll prob- ably be fairly close to what we've done previously." With nearly half of Indy's roster having Super Bowl experience, Caldwell will rely on his veterans to help younger players cope with the countless distractions. The Colts (16-2) would like everything resolved before practice Wednesday. 1 4 8 11 I 12 I 13 15 I 16 18 E .20 I 21 E 23 1 24 - 27 1 ---f 4 ASSOCIATED PRESS Kentucky's DeMarcus Cousins (15) moves to the basket around Arkansas's Mike Washington during their game in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday. rienced and we did play great against Arkansas, but that doesn't tell you how you're going to play the next game." Kentucky's first game as the nation's No. 1 team will be at South Carolina tonight, and Calipari isn't sure what to expect. "They don't understand that 40-minute thing yet," he said. "There's games where they'll play 20-25 minutes and the other 15-20 min- utes the other team beats us. We've got to learn it before late February, start- ing into March. We've got to be more consistent." This is Kentucky's 89th week at No. 1, trailing only UCLA (134), Duke (111) and North Carolina (105). "Obviously, the same goes for this upcom- ing game." The upcoming game hap- pens to be the first Super Bowl involving the Saints in the franchise's 43 years of existence. This is only the ninth winning season the club has had. The 31-28 overtime vic- tory over Minnesota on Sunday night marked the first time the Saints had .hosted an NFC champion- ship game. So when it was over, fans in the Louisiana Superdome and residents of a city that already acts on any excuse for a party spilled into the streets and toasted the Saints' success. Bourbon Street was mobbed with revelers in Saints jerseys letting out high-pitched howls of delight and stirring up impromptu chants of "Who dat say dey gonna' beat dem Saints!" 17 Clammy 19 Health-food buy 22 Architect William 23 Rushing sound 24 Spruce 25 Clay pot 26 Bedtime story 28 Lubricants 29 Skier transport (hyph.) 30 Marx or Maiden 31 Lyric poems 36 Rubber city 37 Butterfly stage 41 Less damp 43 Suits, so to speak 44 Quick turn 45 -- upswing 46 Party-thrower's plea 48 Rough it 49 Band instrument 50 Just fine 52 Alien's vessel 53 Uproar 54 Peak 1-26 2010 by UFS, Inc.
