A division of Steel Dynamics, New Millennium Building Systems in Lake City is a manufacturer of metal joists and deck. The business, located at 1992 NW Bascom Norris Drive off Lake Jeffery Road, officially opened for business in February after construction began in September 2004. The business presently employs 160 people, but has grown quickly during the past 10 months and needs to expand. "We're currently looking to put on a second shift," said Doug Lang, general manager of New Millennium Building Systems. "We're initially look- ing to hire on 15, which would bring our employee total to 175, which is originally what we had projected when we moved here." New Millennium Building Systems has been open for a little less than a year, but the need to increase capacity required new hires. "We just need extra help," said Al Singleton, production manager at New Millennium. 'The business is growing and we need to increase our output so we can sell even more. We don't want to limit ourselves." Singleton said the company JENNIFER CHASTEEN/Lake City Reporter ABOVE: Steel trusses stacked together await delivery at New Millennium. New Millennium Building Systems will be conducting a job fair between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Jan. 7 to look for possible new hires. 'The job fair will allow appli- cants to see the place and put in applications," Singleton said. "Personnel will be on hand to answer any questions applicants may have." Singleton said more than 200 applicants were present at last year's job fair and they are hoping for as many or more this time. "We're looking to hire pro- duction employees," Singleton said. 'Their duties will consist of mainly as:,l 1: and welding." W. hile welding is one of the main priorities for production employees, welding experience is not required, "Applicants don't necessari- ly need a background in weld- ing," Singleton said. "We pro- vide the training. Individuals coming out of high school would receive strong consideration." The business is also looking for civil engineers and detail- ers able to use Auto-CAD computerized software. 'They are encouraged to come to the job fair as well," Singleton said. "We've been looking to hire civil engineers and detailers for a while now. It is hard to keep the people in that field in this area." A benefits package is offered to employees, which includes medical and dental insurance, stock options and tuition reimbursement to send employees or employees' children to college.
