Fort White remains unbeaten From staff reports The Fort White High junior varsity baseball team had its first tie of the season, but remained undefeated at 6-0-1. On Monday, the Indians handled Bradford High 7-2. Matt Hatcher pitched 4'/3 innings to earn the win and improve to 2-0 on the season. He surrendered only three hits, walked three, hit two bat- ters and struck out five. Both runs were unearned as Hatcher lowered his ERA to a microscopic 0.68. Austin Lawrence entered in the fifth and shut the door, retiring both batters he faced with two runners on. Antwan Brown took the loss for Bradford. On Saturday, the Indians locked horns with Santa Fe High, and the result was a 7-7 tie. Matt Milatz found himself in a hole early, down 3-0 after the top of the first inning. Two errors, two hits and a walk resulted in three unearned runs for the Raiders. Santa Fe added, two more runs ,in the third on two sin- gles and a double to jump out to a 5-0 lead. But the Indians rallied in the bottom of the inning, sending nine to the plate and scoring four runs. The key blow was Heath Huesman's two-run bases loaded single. ' In the fourth, Milatz walked the leadoff batter, then dropped a fly ball for an error and two more unearned runs scored to give the Raiders a three-run cushion. In the bottom of the sixth, ' Gilliam Barker led off with a sharp single to short, then pinch hitter Little smoked a line drive to left. An RBI groundout by Julian Bonds scored one run and Lawrence reached on an error to score a second run. Lawrence then stole sec- ond and went to third base on a passed ball. With two outs, Milatz struck out for the apparent third out and the end of the game. But the catcher dropped the ball, and Milatz went to first and Lawrence scored from third, barely eluding the catcher's diving attempt at a tag. The game was called after the next batter struck out due to the two-hour time limit. The Indians' game against Interlachen High on Tuesday was rained out. O "Copyrighted Material S Syn d icated Conent Available from Commercial News Providers 'WOLVES Continued from page 1B real low right now." Ashley Hicken played for her father, Chris, at West Nassau High. The Lady Warriors were 32-2 last year and lost in the state title game in 18 innings. "He wouldn't be happy at all," said Hicken, when asked how Coach Hicken would view the LCCC team. "We're just not hitting; that's the key. If they score in the first inning, we get down. It is like a habit right now." Zaccagni; also a freshman, is from Sugarland, Texas, where her high school team was ranked first in the state when she was a junior and sec- ond when she was a senior. "We are having a hard time with the team issues," Zaccagni said. "No one really cares. It is almost like we are scared to play. We are playing not to lose instead of playing to win. We get down easy, and we don't have the confidence we should." Barring a big turnaround, Lake City will have to settle for a spoiler role after spring break. That begins with a make-up game against Central Florida Community College at home on April 4.
