 Clanton said the associa-
tion's intention is "to protect
the health of our citizens and
preserve Florida's natural
resources."
 According to the FWP-
COA, "We accomplish this by
advancing the professional.
status of water, wastewater
and system operators, provid-
ing a licensing system and
arranging training pro-
grams."
 The association also works
in cooperation with the
Florida Section of the
American Water Works
Association, the Florida
Water Environment
Association, the Florida
Department of
Environmental Protection,
the Florida Department of


Health and the Florida
Educational System.
 Statewide, the FWPCOA is
made up of 13 regions with
Columbia County being in
Region 13. Other counties in
the same region include
Hamilton, Suwannee,
Madison, Lafayette, Taylor,
Dixie, Gilchrist and Levy
Counties.
 Locally, a short school is
held within the regional
boundaries sometime during
the year, but usually on a
much smaller scale.
 "An event such as this
being held within Region 13
would be considered the
Super Bowl of short schools
for us," Clanton said.
 The local short school will
have classes for everything
in the water, wastewater and
stormwater industry, cover-
ing topics from basic electri-
cal equipment and instru-
mentation to utility customer
relations.
