JAX AIR NEWS, NAS JACKSONVILLE, Thursday, November 13, 2008 5 Family Fitness Center caters to parents By Kaylee LaRocque ...... Deputy PAO The NAS Jax Family Fit- ness Center offers parents the opportunity to get the exercise they need while cater- ing to their children. The cen- ter, located above the Youth Activities gymnasium on Mustin Road, provides an alternative to families with small children. It features all the state-of-the-art exercise equipment, free weights and a special play area where children can hang out while their mom or dad is working out. "The center is geared toward the stay-at-home parent because they can't take their children to the regular fitness facilities on base. They can bring their chil- dren with them here to work out. It's just another option for our military families," said NAS Jax Fitness Source Manager Chris Crossman. The center also employs a certi- fied trainer to help set up exer- cise programs, offer guidance on using the equipment and to help patrons with any questions they might have. Our patrons here can get pretty much the same kind of workout we have a full line of strength, cardio and free weight equipment," explained Crossman. "I use the center because it's convenient for me and I don't have to find someone to watch my son while I work out. I can bring him with me. I can't exercise at home because he disrupts me -so I come here where he can play with other children and I can do my thing," said Tanya Hanible, who uses the facility two to three times a week. "I really love com- ing here." "I come here to improve my health, reduce my weight and because I can bring my daugh- ter with me. Another plus is that it's free. So we're trying to counter that and pro- mote healthy lifestyles. This is another way to allow parents to Four-year-old Fairynn Hyde hands 1-year-old Robert Hanible a toy in the children's play area.
