Bill signed into law May 24. h } All active duty personnel are automatically covered in the amountof $20,000 unless they decline participation or elect a lesser amount. The additional coverage will result in a monthly premium increase, { the amount of which has not yet been determined, but which is ex pected to be less than one dollar extra. The cost of the$15,000 SGLI coverage is$2.55 a month. Personnel not desiring the additional coverage will have the op- portunity to decline it. Ready reservists and National Guard personnel can have up to $20,000 insurance coverage full time if they perform at least 12 periodsof 1' inactive duty training a year; 2. Ready reservists and National Guard personnel who complete 20 ; years of service creditable for retirement purposes can have the $20,000 coverage until they begin drawing retirement pay or reach the age of 61, whichever comes first. +) 3. The SGLI policies of persons on active duty can be converted to a newly-enacted"Veterans Group Life Insurance"policy 120 days after their separation or release from active duty.
