S 10 JaxAr NewS, NAS Jacksonville, Thursday, March 30, 2006 Personnel Support Detachment, Jax Here to serve you By LII(SW/AW) Heather Ewton Staff Writer Personnel Support Detach- ment (PSD), Jacksonville is responsible for servicing approximately 9,000 personnel in the Southeast Region. Most cus- tomers of PSD are under the assumption that they simply track pay and service records, check Sailors in to new com- mands and keep identification cards up-to-date. True, they do all of those things but they also do so much more. PSD is behind the scenes on many other occasions and you may be surprised to know what those things are. According to PSD's Officer in Charge, Lt. Cmdr. Kathleen Kerrigan, "When Hurricanes Rita and Wilma came through the South, PSD Jax processed all of the entitlements for those two areas. The people in the Gulf Coast and Key West were unable to work from their offices, so we took it on for them." "Our offices mobilized 250 troops to mission essential loca- tions last November and that was the second largest mobilization to occur nation-wide since 9/11," she added. "What some people might not know is the we also offer the only PSSN Chris Towers of Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Detachment Jacksonville, (right) returns some service member's records to PS3(SW/AW) Roderick Campbell. enlisted classifier in the entire Southeast Region who is able to administer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). With the current re- quirements for Perform to Serve (PTS) and personnel wanting to change into different ratings, the demand for the ASVAB has been very high," commented PSCS(SW) Cecil Montgomery, acting officer in charge, PSD Jax. PS1(SW/AW) Reginald Fields, who is the enlisted classifier for the Southeast Region and also the Receipts Division leading petty officer, mentioned "I have had personnel from as far as Cuba report here to take the ASVAB. Just bring your issue in to us and we will ensure it gets taken care of properly. From allotments to meal card updates on your identifiha- tion card, we are a full service station."
