4 Jax Ar NWS, NAS Jacksonville, Thursday, April 21, 2005 'Sunseekers' build with Habitat for Humanity By Lt. Cmdr. Todd Shipman VR-58 PAO "Br building Homes with God's people in need," is the motto of the Clay County chapter of Habitat for Humanity. That's exactly what several members of VR-58 did on a recent Friday morning. At 8 a.m. on April 8, 28 mem- bers of VR-58 turned out in their Gold "Sunseeker" T-shirts to work on one of the 16 Habitat for Humanity homes currently under construction in Clay County. VR- 58 is a Naval Reserve Fleet Logistics Support Squadron based at NAS Jacksonville. For more than six hours, the team of volunteers worked on painting the interior, installing vinyl fascia and placing siding on the exterior. VR-58 personnel contributed approximately 170 man-hours during their most recent quarter- ly outing with Habitat for Humanity. Lunch was provided for the volunteers by sight super- visor Anita Hinkle. "It gives me a great feeling of satisfaction to be part of a project that helps others in need," said PN3 Amy Ingles, who was one of the volunteers. "This outstanding effort from the Sunseeker team couldn't have been possible without the tremen- dous support from the command Photos courtesy of VR-58 AMCS Carl Miles cuts vinyl siding while AM1 Wulf Werner and AMC Penny Gorton watch. and the Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Will Hall. VR-58 really makes volunteering and giving back to the community ,easy," said Command Master Chief and Volunteer CMDCM(AW) Gerald Thomas. "Habitat for Humanity is an outstanding organization and a great way to give back to the local community that is so supportive of the military," added VR-58 Executive Officer Cmdr. Nigel MacWilkinson. "I'm really proud of the large turnout of VR-58 per- sonnel. It really shows the pride, professionalism and generosity of the Sunseeker team." VR-58 command coordinator for Habitat for Humanity is HM1 Timothy Faison. But you don't have to be a member of the squadron to volunteer on a Habitat for Humanity project. Anyone interested in volunteer- ing can contact Anita Hinkle, vol- unteer coordinator for Clay County Habitat for Humanity, Inc. at (904) 282-7590 or email anitacchh4@bellsouth.net. Lt. Cmdr. Rich Shettler, left on ladder, and Lt. Cmdr. Garret Edmonds wait for a cut piece of siding to install. CMDCM(AW) Gerald Thomas, left, installs vinyl fascia while AMI Wulf Werner supervises.
