NFCC Patient Care Technician program to accept applications North Florida Com- munity College Patient Care Tech (PCT) pro-. gram is accepting ap- plications thru Thurs- day, July 31 for the fall Norris Notes By Lillian Norris I know you are having a busy sum- mer, why don't you share some of your activities with us? Can you be- lieve the teachers will be back in the classroom shortly, then the school bus- es will be running again, is time just passing me by faster, or am I just get- ting slower? It was really a shocker to me last week when the ladies of First Presby- terian Church hosted the birthday par- ty at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center. There were three ladies being honored for July birthdays, guess what? They were all younger than I am. But, I am still out and about and will be as long as possible. The young people from First Baptist have been very busy this summer, all ages, we will try to get some news from them soon. There is certainly a praise from First Baptist, and for the community, Marty Wood is back at home, and in town, he has been seen out an about, and we rejoice with him and his family on his progress. Dr. Fredrick and Beverly Mickler moved to Dowling Park several months ago, after spending many years in Hamilton County., serving the community, blessing us all with their presence as well as their knowledge and service. We miss them and wish them the very best, Beverly is now at Good Samaritan Center in Dowling Park. As Teacher of the Year in Hamilton County, Penny Mickler and her hus- band, Bill, attended the festivities re- cently honoring those in the education field who have achieved this honor. They report a wonderful time, we hoe to have more information on this in the near future. We are proud of you, Pen- ny, and know you represented our county well. Judy Williams, with Meridian Health Care, was the guest of the Youth Group of First Presbyterian' Church on Tuesday evening at the Church. Nan Hamm is director of the youth group and we will be hearing 2008 term. Classes be- gin Monday, Aug. 11. The PCT program is a cuse for not voting more from them in the near future. Theoo critical, but political tion to take down the signs are reallyxpect appearing every- where, you will not have any ex- cuse for not voting, hope you will, think I am not being too critical, but do go out and be as helpful after the elec- tion to take down the signs. We expect to see them and are ok with their being out ahead of time, but it does help if they are removed after the election is over. I would love to hear from someone in regard to reunions that are being held, there have been family reunions that should be reported, also class re- unions, some have been but others have not. Some day you might like to look back and see pictures, etc. I am busy clearing out some things, but it is very special to recall some of the spe- cial occasions. As I recalled one class reunion, my 50th, I was asked to be , master of ceremonies (that was 14 years ago in case you are counting) and I disappeared for a few minutes someone asked Wade where I was and he replied he knew I was somewhere praying. Also; at this one, you may have heard this, we used to have class prophesies (do you do that any more) and mine was that I would be editor of a New York newspaper, 50 years later I told the class I did better than that, I was editor of the Jasper News. I really felt that way (still do). I have seen many come and go, many changes, but it is still dear to my heart. As far as I am concerned, TV or anything else, will never take the place of sitting down and reading the newspaper, remember the days we could sit at the breakfast table and drink coffee and discuss the news over the morning paper. A telephone call from JoAnn Young told me that she has a brother living in Moncks Comer, S. C., I already knew of Elbert Hughes' sister, and also Glenn Miller's brother is fire chief there. It really is a small world, I look forward to trying to talk with these folks when we go to the family reunion next year. Hope to hear from you soon. Bembry announces candidacy Continued From Page 1A Democrat, stated "I am running to make a differ- ence in the lives of the people in District 10. I believe with all my heart that the seat reserved in the Florida House for the Representative form Dis- trict 10 belongs to the people of District 10." Bembry was born on a tobacco farm in Hamil- ton County where the values of hard work, per- severance and a deep re- spect for the environ- ment were instilled in him at a very early age. Those lifetime values have served him well as he faced great personal and financial hardship during the great drought of 1977 and when he suc- cessfully fought against the siting of an environ- mentally dangerous coal. plant planned for his community. Today, Leonard is still farming both his farm and his family's fourth genera- tion farm along the banks of the Aucilla Riv- er in Madison County. Bembry is also a Busi- nessman, having built University Homes in Tal- lahassee into one of the area's most successful lo- cal businesses. Through his business he's given thousands of area resi- dents their first chance at home ownership. "I know the responsibility of having to sign the' front side of a check and not just the back," he said. Experience, values and deep roots in the com- munity were cited by Be- mbry as his qualifica- tions for the job. "As a lifelong resident of the district I know the heart and soul of the people in our area and I under- stand the problems we face," he said. "As a farmer I know the values of hard work, persever- ance and faith and I un- derstand the importance of our environment. As a businessman I know the value of a dollar, the responsibility of meeting a payroll and the disci- pline of sticking to a budget. As a husband, a father and a grandfather .I know we have to pro- vide opportunities for our residents - young and old - and we have to leave this place better off than we found it." Bembry's top priorities will be to provide the ed- ucation, create the jobs and generate the oppor- tunities that keep our young people at home and our communities strong. He also promised. the voters in District 10 that he will "protect our environment from those who seek to exploit it and fight the budget cuts in Tallahassee that will hurt our schools, public safety and vital local ser- vices." If elected Bembry promises to be a humble servant that is accessible and available. "I will treat people with respect and dignity and most of all I will listen to the peo- ple of District 10.- with- out regard to race, gen- der, religion, economic status, or geography," he said. Bembry resides in Madison, Florida with his wife of 40 years, Su- san. He's the proud fa- ther of three and grand- father of eight. District 10 includes all or part of Hamilton, Co- lumbia, Madison, Jeffer- son, Wakulla, Franklin, Taylor, Dixie, Levy and Alachua counties, Will S. Kendrick, who currently holds the Dis- trict 10 seat, is leaving the House due to term limits. Lost pet cat Lost pet cat, neutered male.
