By Brenda Chapman After the tragic death of our'favorite racing legend in the winter of 2001 I thought that Sunday (race day) would never again be the same again. There was no longer the urge to sit in front of the television locked to the race, because our driver was gone. We know that we'weren't the only race fans with an empty place in our hearts and our Sundays. At this point, like many other race fans, we thought we had lost our love for our favorite sport. But like all wounds time began to heal the hurt and the race was back on the TV on Sunday. Even though at times tears still flowed at an unforeseen time, we knew that a true race fan doesn't give up when the cards are down, so rather than continuing to grieve we found a way to help not only heal our hurt but that*of many race fans. Our racing hero Dale Earnhardt was gone and we had to go on, as many a race fan has had to do when their favorite driver met the same fate. We decided that a traveling tribute to our favorite race drivers from history could help not only ourselves but many others get over i, this tragic accident and bring us back to the sports we loved. We all know that is what our racing heroes would have wanted from their fans. In April of 2001 we decided to turn thought into reality. After a few hours online we started to locate racecars from the past for sale, and the ideas began to flow. You can go to any race and see the Legends in the making, but we wanted to remind the fans that no one forgets the heroes of the past, and so our Legends of the Last Century Tour came to be. By May of 2001 we had purchased our first three racecars and so our Legend had begun. We had purchased three famous racecars from history and started to put together our show tour. Within less than a month we Our racing hero Dale Earnhardt was gone and we had to go on, as many a race fan has had to do when their favorite driver met the same fate. We decided that a traveling tribute to our favorite race drivers from history could help not only ourselves but many others get over this tragic accident and bring us back to the sports we loved. 1988 Goodwrench Monte Carlo owned anddriven by Dale Earnhardt Sr. This was the very first Goodwrench Monte Carlo that won at Daytona in the Busch Clash and the Twin 125 mile race in 1988 with the #8 embla- zoned on the side instead of #3. This was in tribute to Ralph Earnhardt, Dale's father, who used the #8 in the early years of racing. Dale Earnhardt owned this car until 1994. Photo: Submitted GORGEOUS SPRING'. Shows were starting to line up and the tour was on. A few days later we met with the same unexpected fear implanted into our business and our hearts as the rest of the United States 9/11 had just happened. With every business old or new unsure where to turn we thought the dream would stop there. I returned to a full time job and our beloved racecars were parked. But as before, time healed our hearts and it was time to start again, so in the Spring of 2002 we started to promote the tour again and from this point on have never looked anyway but forward. Now in 2008 we own seven racecars driven by some of the most famous drivers in history and once again it is time for the dream to come full circle. We envision a racing legends museum, a place worthy of being the final resting place for the cars of some of the most famous drivers in history. We are currently in our eighth year %\ ith the show tour and we would like to thank all who have helped us survive and grow and to invite those who have not yet seen our show to join us.
