PA L- 2RL THE JASPER NEWS. Ja-er.,FL THURSDAY,-AUGUST-17, 2006 This is the time of year when, to use an old "south- ernism," "lectioneering" hits its zenith. I heard the late Hilward Morgan state in a speech once when he was running for School Board a number of years ago, that he had "tasted some of the sweetest grapes, eaten some of the best pound cake, and had drunk some of the coolest and best well water" all over the county. And so it goes with those vying to become newly elected offi- cials or retain their offices. The first primary election will be held on Tuesday, Sept.-5 and since this is an "off" election year, voter "turnout" is expected to be low. Let's prove them wrong here in Hamilton County, exercise your right to vote. If you'd like to vote early, you may begin voting at the Supervisor's Office on Monday, Aug. 21, and I be- lieve you can vote through Friday, Sept. 2. If you would like an absentee bal- lot, call the Supervisor of Elections Office in Jasper, and they will furnish you with one or wait until Elec- tion Day and go to the polls. They are open from 7 a.m. till, 7 p.m. to give everyone plenty of time to .vote. " I hope everyone who is registered will vote. Re- member one vote can make a difference. One vote elect- ed Adolph Hitler, Chancel- lor of Germany in 1933. Your vote is your voice. Vote on Sept. 5 for the can- didate of your choice. Speaking of candidates, South Hamilton Elemen- tary was "chock full" of candidates and political ac- tivists on Saturday, Aug. 12, as the Hamilton County Democratic Executive Committee sponsored the first of two political rallies to be held in Hamilton County. At 6 p.m., candi- dates gathered at SHE where they "stumped" for the public. They were in- troduced by Annie Law Pinello, vice-chair of the Committee. The stage was beautifully decorated with ferns ,donated by Mrs. Charles (Mildred) Floyd, and a patriotic flower arrangement provided by the Bullard Family, White Springs. Rousing patriotic music was provided by Delores Howell, Jasper. The invoca- tion and Pledge' of Alle- giance were led by Herbert Lumpkin, White Springs, Veteran's Officer for Hamilton County. A full coterie of local candidates spoke on issues pertaining to their offices or prospec- tive offices. The next ral- ly will be held at Cross- roads Volunteer Fire De- partment on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m. Complimenta- ry cokes, potato chips, and hot dogs will be served. Come out and hear your lo- cal and state candidates at this political rally. Laura Leigh Bullard, White Springs, spent last week with her maternal grandparents, Sybil and Everal. Allen, Jennings. It was built in honor the late John Graham, longtime educator and former mayor of the Town of White Springs. The "Apples of Gold," headed up by Judy Smith. and Barbara Klepper of New Hope Baptist Church, Jennings, are to be com- mended for the wonderful job they did in providing homemade baked treats for all the schools in this coun- ty during pre-planning. What a treat and what a marvelous ministry. We appreciate you! God bless you! As I drove past Long Branch Congregational Methodist Church on Sat- urday, I noticed their young people were having a good time, slipping and sliding and having a great "water day" on the church grounds. It was a good af- ternoon for it, and I know everyone had a "big" time. Please remember the fol- lowing in prayer: Virginia Daniel, JM.
