April 2006 marks the 23rd anniversary of Na- tional Child Abuse Prevention Month. Experts have long recognized that the best way ,to address child abuse and neglect is to prevent it before it ever happens. Parents who have the support and resources they need are better able to provide safe and stable homes for their children. The primary goal of the Prevention Task Force is to develop strategies within the community to pre- vent child abuse and neglect by impacting parents, and their parenting practices. This can be accom- plished by sharing resources and information throughout the communities. The task force also has proclamations that bring the issue of child abuse before the County Commission. Prevention Task Force members include parents, educators, child advocates, interested citizens, so- cial service providers, churches and local govern- ment. Task Force members dedicate time from their everyday jobs and life to help keep children in the community safe.
