Don Fenneman, a Chal- lenger's Club member, ex- plained that the members of the club have con- tributed $500 or more to the current campaign. There are 19 new members bringing the total to 100 in Hamilton County. The Challenger's Club has raised over $70,000 toward their goal of $180,000. Steven Oliva, executive director of the WellFlorida Council, gave a brief overview of some of the programs they have avail- able. The Council is a new partner agency of the Unit- ed Way of Suwannee Val- ley, which promotes health and wellness in 16 coun- ties. Kanoye Capps, execu- tive director of the Hamil- ton County Council on Aging, described the types of assistance they provide to senior citizens and their caregivers. She also ex- plained the Pharmacy As- sistance Program and stat- ed that it is the only stand alone agency of its type in Florida. Renee Cobb who retired from the board of directors to serve as the first 2-1-1 coordinator, noted that in- dividual counties pay for the referral service. Trained operators refer callers to the appropriate agencies that can handle their needs. McKee informed the group that Monja Robin- son and Kathy Sasser of the Jasper News and Suwannee Democrat have begun a new tradition with the annual Suwannee County United Way Auc- tion, which is scheduled on the first Friday in Feb- ruary.
