PAGE 2B THE JASPER NEWS, Jasper, FL THURSDAY. AUGUST 18. 200 COMMENTARY M Memo from a Trojan fan Trojans making work fun By Terry Hedgespeth, Sports Reporter First, I would certainly -like to wish the new ath- letic director Patrick Mur- phy and his family the -best in his pursuit of putting back the pride in -. the Trojans athletic pro- gram, his alma mater. Next, there were several great efforts during the scrimmage that should be noted, especially defen- sively. One young man that has gotten my attention with his great attitude and the respect his teammates have for him due to his heart he brings on the held is Will Snipes. I no- ticed that the coaches had no problem calling on Snipes whenever the\ needed a spot filled on the line. I started paying atten- bon to some of this sopho- more class. One player of note was Will Haves. This is his first year of varsity play with the Trojans, but he feels pretty confident and looks great on the field. I noticed at the end -of practices during the running, he was always the first to come across, and he showed that speed and determination on the defensive side of the ball in a great effort. Senior leader Cam Co- hen was extremely im-.. pressive at the defensive -back position not allow- ing anything past him,- displaying the confidence that is going to be needed if the Trojans are going to be successful. There were some brutal hits in the secondary, es- pecially by Derrick Wind- ham. This is going to be a football player. I certainly had the chance to hear how proud his brother was of his efforts and abil- ities. I share those thoughts. Other players of note putting a smile on the coaching staff's face was, Whoe Roberson, Jermaine Walker, Dominique Clar- idy, Chris Ravenel and Greg Taylor. There were many tackles for losses or hurries as a result of these Trojans efforts. Overall, the entire squad of Trojans looked very good. The Trojans appear ready both offen- sively and defensively to take the field. We will see tonight as the Trojans kick their season off at 7 p.m. in NMayo. It sure would be nice to see a crowd from Jasper. This team will not disappoint you.
