Graceville (4-1, 1--0 in District 1-1B) travels to Niceville Friday to take on Rocky Bayou Christian (1-4) in the last game for the Tigers before a three- game stretch of district contests starting with an Oct. 24 home tilt against FAMU. Tigers coach Todd Wertenberger said that he and his team was looking forward to last weekend's bye, which he said was perfectly-timed, to get pre- pared for the crucial home stretch of the season; as well as heal some physical wounds. "Yeah, I think we're renewed and ready for the next five weeks," the coach said, "but we've still got a couple of nag- ging injuries, so we're not all the way healed yet." Wertenberger said that nose guard Jamie, Simmons (shin) is questionable for Friday's game and running back/linebacker Treyshaun White (shoulder) was questionable also, though the coach said he anticipated him "Yeah, I think we're renewed and ready for the next five weeks." -Todd Wertenberger, Graceville coach being ready to go by Friday night. Few Tigers players seemed ready to go at Monday's prac- tice, according to Wertenberger. "We had, I guess, a normal, sorry Monday practice," he said. "I'm not real happy with it, but Monday is always a learning day where you're seeing what the other team does on offense and defense. "We never look as good as I want on Monday and I go home frustrated. But we should get after it pretty good (at Tuesday's practice)." The Tigers will be facing a first-year team In the Rocky Bayou Christian Knights, who have struggled this season with four straight losses to Aucilla Christian, Munroe, Pleasant Home. and Bozeman, with only the Munroe game being close. -"They've got some pretty good players, but most of them are freshmen and sophomores, which is the reason they're struggling," Wertenbeiger said. "Their defensive line looks 'pret- ty good. They get off the ball real well, but their linebackers are not tackling real well, which is where they're getting hurt." On offense, the Knights turn back the clock to the 1940s with the single-wing, which the Tigers won't see from any other opponent this season. The freshmen team fell in two games, 25-17 and 25-22, but it was another victory for the junior var- sity in two games, 25-13 and 25- S16. Prior to the varsity games, sen- iors Krista Griffin, Randa Hickman, Janna Hinson, Taylor Smith and Jordan Sonaglia were honored alongside their parents. , In the initial varsity game, nei- ther team could put together a run. with the score remaining only a few points apart and ending in the Lady Bulldogs' favor at 25-22. With the game, at 7-4, Randa Hickman made it a 9-4 game before Taylor Smith went to the line at 9-7 and made it. a 14-9 game. Sneads got a rushing touch- down from Dillon Spates and a receiving score from Jeff Bell, who caught a 20-yard TD pass from TJ Granger in the second quarter to give Sneads a 14-6 lead. SThe difference in the game was the 2-point conversion scored by LDerrick Streater after the first touchdown of the game. .' The Tigers weren't able to con- vert the extra points on either of their touchdowns. Spates led the way 'for the .Pirates with 91 rushing yards, v.,while Streater added 64 yards on the ground.
