At Dr. Kurpa's office we know how the feet are the foundation of the entire spinal pelvic structure. Any fallen arch or misalignment in the feet can cause pain (now or later) in the knees, hips, back or neck and even cause them to wear out prematurely. Many spinal conditions are actually the result of feet that are poor- ly supported, and we can fix that! We Now Have The AssociateTM Platinum from Foot Levelers. The Associate Platinum is a digital scanner that examines your feet and each of the foot's three arches. It prints a color photo of your feet to show where you may have issues that could affect the rest of your body. We then can recommend customized Stabilizers made just for you! Jackson County native wins Florida Folk Heritage Award SPECIAL TO THE FLORIDAN Secretary of State Kurt S. Browning pre- sented the 2008 Florida Folk Heritage Awards at the Florida H e r i t a g e Johnson Month Awards Presentation and Reception earlier this year in Tallahassee. Among the recipients was Joseph Johnson of Cottondale/Tallahassee. As the chairman of Sunday Morning Band (SMB), Lodge No. 363 for the past 15 years, Johnson oversees the preserva- tion of a mutual aid society with an unsurpassed legacy in Florida. SMB started in 1868" in Columbia County's Bethel Church and grew into a statewide mutual aid society that, assisted members and ensured decent, respectful burials. Johnson "was born into the band" in 1947 in Jackson County, since his mother was a presiding officer. A retired supervisor of the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Radiology Department, Johnson has long resided in Tallahassee, but says that Cottondale remains his true home. He frequently returns for lodge and church events. Annually, on the second Sunday in September, the band "marches in," forming a procession from their lodge to the anniversary program site in Cottondale. Johnson leads the signature spiritual, "Sunday Morning Band" upon entering the churchyard. In 1965, Johnson also formed the Gospel Jubilees, a traditional African American gospel quar- tet. Johnson heads the quartet. "The work of these talented individuals illustrates the extraordinary depth and diver- sity of Florida's traditional cultural heritage. They are rec- ognized for their remarkable artistic achievements, as well as their role as teachers and preservers of Florida's folk cultural resources," said Secretary Browning. The Florida Department of State annually presents Florida Folk Heritage Awards to citi- zens whose lifelong devotion to folklife has enriched the state's cultural legacy.
