If Vapam is sprayed on the surface, immediately cover the surface with 3 to 6" of soil, then compact the soil, and finally seal the surface by either tarping or sprinkling with water. A waiting period of 14 to 21 days is suggested for soils that are considered well-drained. However, on heavier soils, or when cooler temperatures are present, a longer waiting period may be required. If soils are extremely heavy and a crust has developed on the surface, then a light cultivation may be done to break the surface seal to increase the rate of dissipation of the chemical. Be careful not to till the soil from untreated areas into the treated zone or a rapid re- infestation may result. With dosages requiring more than 100 gallons per acre, a 60 day waiting period should be observed. Additional information on application rates for Vapam is provided in Table C.4. Telone II4 Environmental Conditions The soil should be free of clods, and all plant residue turned under to allow decomposition prior to application of Telone II. It is suggested that there be no irrigation applied prior to the application. Application of Telone II should be done when soil is at or near permanent wilting point (very dry). Soil temperatures at a depth of application should be between 40 and 80 F. If the soil temperature fails to reach 40 F during the planting season, fumigation of the soil is suggested in the prior fall or late summer season. 4This information is derived from the specimen label for Telone II. The information is not inclusive and is not meant to be used as an application guide. 140
