STORAGE SPOT OR "POX" Storage spot or "pox" is a trouble characterized by the de- velopment of more or less numerous shallow, sunken spots on citrus fruit kept in storage, especially in cold storage. Cold stor- Fig. 77.-Storage spot or "pox" on grapefruit. age spots are light-colored to brown sunken areas in the rind, varying in size and shape with the variety, thickness of the rind, storage conditions, etc. They appear to develop especially readily on grapefruit. The spotting begins on grapefruit as small indentations of the rind on any part of the surface. These sunken areas increase in size and may become 1/2 inch or more in diameter and usually average about 1/25 inch in depth (Fig.
