APPENDIX C PRICE RELATIVES Price relatives were calculated by dividing each monthly price by the arithmetic average of that product during a base period. The base period selected was the 12 months of January to December, 1967, inclusive. Thus, for corn (Table 10) the prices for the 12 months, January through December, 1967, were added, and the total divided by 12 to determine the average or base price of 130.0 cents per bushel. The price of corn each month was then divided by the base price to obtain the relative price (Table 42). The purpose of price relatives is to facilitate comparisons between different commodities and different periods of time.
