GROUP PRICE INDEX NUMBERS Field Crops The grass, oil, fiber, and tobacco crops account for 13.8 percent of the weight in the composite index and they have been grouped together as field crops in the computation of the index. The weight of the commodity groups in the field crop index is as follows: sugarcane, 46.8 percent; peanuts and soybeans, 19.3 percent; tobacco, 14.2 percent; corn, 12.1 percent; hay, 6.8 percent; and cotton lint, 0.8 percent.
