THE WISE AND FOOLISH VIRGINS.ERE is a picture of a parable that our LORD told, to teac. us thatwe must take care to live every day just as if we expected Him tocall us home to heaven at any moment. There were ten young girls-five were wise and five were foolish. They were all asked to a wedding, which in that country always took placeat night; so every one who was to be at it would need a lamp. The foolishvirgins took their lamps, but took no oil with them; the wise took oil itrtheir vessels with their lamps. And while they waited for the bridegroom to come, they all fell asleep."And at midnight there was a cry made, 'Behold, the bridegroomcometh; go ye out to meet him.'"Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps."And the foolish said unto the wise, 'Give us of your oil; for ourlamps are gone out.'" But the wise answered, saying, 'Not so; lest there be not enoughfor us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, an4 ,buy for yourselves.'"And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they thatwere ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut."Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, 'Lord, Lord, opento us.'"But he answered and said, 'Verily I say unto you, I know you not." Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherinthe Son of Man cometh."So the foolish virgins were shut out, and could not go to the marriagefeast.Let us see if we can find a lesson in this story.3 **.
