THE FIGURE PUZZLE.

You may assert that you can prove the half of nine to
be either four or six ; and the half of twelve to be seven.

To show this draw a nine or twelve in numerals, and
fold the paper across the middle, thus :

THE CHANGEABLE FLOWERS.
Avp a little salt to the wick of a spirit lamp, then
light it; place near it a scarlet geranium, and the flower
will appear yellow. Purple colours will appear blue.

 

COLOURED SHADOWS.

Licur two candles, and place them upon a table
before a light papered or white wall: hold before one of
the candles a piece of coloured glass, taking care to
remove to a greater distance the candle before which the
coloured glass is not placed. If a piece of green glass
be used, one of the shadows will be green and the other
red; if you use blue, one will be of that colour, and the
other a pale yellow.
