Between May and July 1535, Ruiz had a large quantity of gold appraised in Cuzco, for paying the corresponding taxes to the Crown.117 He went from Peru to Spain to enroll in the army that would go to Florida. In two different instances, Ruiz Lobillo testified that he had been in Florida with Hernando de Soto. The first was in Mexico in 1547, when he indicated that he was born around 1520 (?) in Setenil.
