and that instead of having nice meals of
meat and pudding, and all sorts of good
things, as most of you have now, you had
nothing but dry bread, and not so much as
you could eat of that. Then, suppose, that
instead of going to school and learning to
read and write, and such things, and after
school hours are over running about and
playing, full of health and strength, you
were obliged to work hard all day until you
were so tired that you had no spirit for
