Canelas Director of University Libraries 204 Library West University of Florida Gainesville, FL 32611-2048 Dear M. Canelas: Enclosed is a copy of the proposal to the National Endowment for the Humanities submitted by Cornell University on behalf the United States Agricultural Information Network (USAIN) and nine land grant universities. As you know, this proposal is an integral part of the National Preservation Program for Agricultural Literature and will, if funded, substantially advance the state and local literature component of this national disciplinary preservation plan. Each state's commitment to the preservation of it's agriculture and rural life literature is highly evident, particularly in the details provided in Sections 5 and 6. I think the proposal, drafted with your help by Preservation Consultant Carolyn Clark Morrow, is a compelling statement of our aspirations and plans to systematically preserve an important part of American history. Framed as it is within a broader context of a national cooperative plan to preserve the literature of a discipline, with excellent cost sharing support from the participants, and endorsement by NAL and USAIN, I believe this is an exemplary preservation proposal. Assuming the continued well-being of NEH, I think we have reason to be optimistic that the proposal will be funded. Thank you again for your efforts in developing this proposal. Judging from the spirit of cooperation evinced during the proposal development phase, it will be a distinct pleasure for us all to work together on this worthy project. We will let you know as soon as we hear from NEH. In the meantime, please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. Sincerely, Samuel Demas 1 Head, Collection Development and Preservation Enc. te4" z '- '. v( SD/smv 2 i_ ^ 1 . Wj^LUyl, /6,3-
