The preservation of state and local literature as articulated in the proposal to NEH will complement the aforementioned activities at NAL, the important work that has been accomplished through Cornell's Mann Library Core Historical Literature Project as well as efforts at other institutions. The realization of this proposal will be a major milestone in the preservation of agricultural materials, locally and nationally. Moreover, it forms an integral component of the National Preservation Program for Agricultural Literature. For our part, NAL will assume responsibility for preservation, in perpetuity, of all first generation master negative microfilm produced in the project as part of its national role and commitment to the national preservation program for agriculture and rural life literature. In addition, we are purchasing positive copies of all the film produced in this project for inclusion in the NAL collection. We will also seek viable options for fulfilling all aspects of the leadership role USAIN has identified for NAL in its report, A National Preservation Program for Agricultural Literature, and expect to continue to play a leadership role in digital preservation efforts in the future. I appreciate the opportunity to lend support to this proposal. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or need additional information. Sincerely, Pamela 0. J. Andre PAMELA Q. J.
