and splendor. That immense structure
was probably raised to his honor—to
the honor of him who was once the
head of a kingdom, at that time the
proudest on the face of the earth.

But where is he now? Where are
all those haughty monarchs who pre-
ceded and followed him on the throne
of Egypt? Where are they? Where
is the mighty one whose embalmed. re-
mains were placed, with such pomp and
splendor, in that vast cemetery, which,
perhaps, will ever be ranked among the
ereatest wonders of art in the world?
