ple. One man, a captain of a vessel,
who spent some time among them, de-
clares that those he saw were so com-
pletely covered with grease and dirt,
that he could not tell what their real
color was. They eat raw flesh. This
captain says, that there was an Esqui-
maux hut near the place where his ship
was anchored, and that he often had a
chance to see them taking their meals.
He saw a woman take a seal which had
just been killed, and after biting it —
into pieces, she passed it around to the
rest of the family. |
