as large as the room in which you are
sitting, which is sent up, with a roar-
ing sound, higher than the ridge-pole
of a three-story house. As this column
of water rises, it carries a vast cloud
of vapor along with it.

Large stones are often thrown up in
this vast column. Sometimes visitors
throw stones into the spring, to see
them go up in the air. It now and
then happens, that stones will remain
near the top of the column of water,
