THE KING BIRD.

Tue King Bird, or Tyrant Fly Catcher,
is a wanderer over the American conti
nent, visiting the United States in the
spring, where it spends the summer, re-
turning to the south on the approach of
autumn. It is about eight inches in
length; dark bluish-gray on the upper
parts; chest grayish white, becoming pure
on the throat and under surface. The
names of King and Tyrant have been
bestowed on this bird for its extraordinary
conduct, and the authority it assumes
over all others during the time of breed-
