THE BRENT GOOSE. Taz Brent is one of the hardy water- birds found in the northern countries of the world, and at certain seasons, seen in the warmer climates. It is sometimes found two feet in length. The upper plumage is generally black, and the lower, white, and partially mottled. In winter, flocks of these geese may be seen on the coasts of the Atlantic states. The Brent usually feeds on the bars, at low water, and now and then, also, in the marshes. Their common food consists of tender sea- plants and small shell-fish. In the spring, the old birds are lean and badly flavored, (86)
