THE WILD GOOSEH. Tur common wild Goose of America is well known in every part of the United States as a bird of passage. It is some- times called the Canada Goose, because it breeds in Canada and the regions north of that country. The wild goose some- times grows to the length of three feet and ahalf. The upper plumage is black and brown—the under portions, gray and white. In autumn, the geese, knowing by instinct that winter 1s approaching, and fearful of starvatian, assemble on the sea-coast of British America and prepare to fly southward. Like the rest of their (82)
