THE STILT-LEGGED SANDPIPER. 53 sportsman approaches, they give the alarm. Towards evening, in fine weather, the marshes almost re-echo with their shrill piping. At most times, except in the spring, they are fat and well-flavored. The Stilt-legged Sandpiper is only found in the cold regions of the far north. It is more than ten inches in length. The legs are very long in proportion to the size of the bird, and the bill is slim and weak. In the autumn, flocks of them may be seen about the shores of Hudson’s Bay.
