YELLOW SHANKS TATLER. Tur Yellow Shanks Tatler is a bird very common in the United States. It belongs to the wading family, and is usually found on the banks of rivers and lakes and in marshes. The salt marshes are favorite places of resort for these birds. After a heavy storm, they may be seen as far in- land as the extent of tide-water. The Yellow Shanks has a sharp whistle of two or three notes, which it repeats, when alarmed, and when flying, and sometimes utters a simple, low, hoarse call, when starting upon the wing.
