its harshness, been compared to the cry
of a goat. When discovered, the Godwits
run out rapidly without taking the wing.
They breed among the reeds and grass.
Like some other birds, they migrate at
night, particularly when it is moonlight,
and may at such times, be heard, and
sometimes seen, passing along, high in the
air. The sportsmen make sad havoc
among the Godwits. <A flock becomes
confused when one of the number falls,
and makes repeated circles around the
wounded bird, before they take to flight.
The flocks are, however, difficult to
approach.
