HISTORY OF WATER BIRDS. THE RED FLAMINGO. Tue Flamingo is an ungraceful bird. See! what a long, crooked neck, heavy bill, and long legs! But the feathers are of a beautiful red color, and this prevents the Flamingo from being entirely ugly. The Flamingoes breed in the West India Islands, and then visit the coasts of the United States. When seen at a distance such is the brilliancy of their dress, that they seem like a troop of soldiers, being arranged alongside of each other, in lines, while they search for food near the sea. (5)
