THE BLACK SQUIRREL. Tue Black Squirrel is found in the porth of Asia and North America. The tirst are taken near the Lake Baikal, in the cold region of Siberia. These Squir- rels are sometimes wholly black; but. commonly they are marked with white on the nose, the neck, or the end of the tail. They are about the size of a half-grown rabbit. The tail is shorter than that of the well-known Gray Squirrel. The Black Squirrels collect in troops and do great damage to the plantations of Indian corn, or maize. In some places a reward is given for every one that is killed. They (127)
