‘THE LONG-TAILED DEER.

_ Tur Long-tailed Deer is found in the
neighborhood of the Rocky Mountains,
and in the countries west of them. In
the districts about the Columbia river,
these animals are numerous, and the In-
dians as well as the white settlers find
great sport in hunting them at certain
seasons. The gait of the Long-tailed
Deer consists of two ambling steps and a
bound twice the length of the step. In
running the tail is erect, wagging from
side to side, and from its length is the
most striking feature of the animal. These
