THE DEER. THERE are several varieties of Deer ‘ known as the moose, reindeer, elk, com- mon deer, black-tailed deer, long-tailed deer and the Mexican deer. They are beautiful quadrupeds. They are distin- guished from the antelopes by their horns, which fall off annually, and are always renewed of a larger size. These horns always exist on the heads of the male, and sometimes on that of the female. Some- times, the horns have many small branches, and again they are simple and straight.
