THE ORYX. Tur Oryx, or Gemsbok, is a species of antelope. It is a heavy, stout animal, about five feet in length, and three feet two inches high at the shoulder; the length of the horns is from two feet to two feet and a half; that of the ears, seven inches, and that of the tail thir- teen inches. The horns are almost straight. The general color of the body is a dark, rusty iron-gray on the upper parts, and white on the under, the two being sepa- rated on the flanks by a broad band of brown or black.
