A PRELIMINARY REPORT ON CLAYS OV FLORIDA 227 much over fifteen per cent of the material excavated. A slight amount of a very fine sand and some mica remains in the washed clay, but the quantity is not sufficient to injure its usefulness, except for some grades of paper-clay. The washed product at each of the three plants engaged in mining this clay varies little in its properties and uses. It is very plastic, whiteburning, refractory, and has medium transverse and bonding strength.
