Application of Panamanian Social Security
(1) The provisions for Employee Social Security, retirement benefits, and health benefits coverage, set forth in paragraphs 1-4 of Article VIII of the Agreement in Implementation of Article III of the Panama Canal Treaty[1]Ishall be applicable, mutatis mutandis, to employees of the United States Forces and to those employees who may be transferred from the Panama Canal Commission to the United States Forces.
(2) (a) Non-United States citizen employees who are not covered by the Civil Service Retirement System of the United States, or employees paid by United States non-appropriated fund instrumantalities, shall be covered by Panamanian Social Security from the date this Agreement enters into force, with contributions paid by the insured and the employer according to the rates established by the Social Security Laws.of the Republic of Panama.
(b) The United States shall request the necessary legislation to pay each such employee a retirement similar.to that of the Social Security System of the Republic of Panama.
