For detailed report, see page —. : Steel for the permanent sheds for Docks 15, 16, and 17 is being delivered, and on June 30, 1913, a contract for building the reinforced concrete sheds on Docks 15 and 16, in the amount of $201,000, was entered into with the Central American Construction Co. (Ltd.), work to be completed by April1,1914. The Gatun Dock was practically completed at close of fiscal year ata total cost of $25,214.02. For further details, see page —. The erection of eight new cargo-handling cranes for steel pier Balboa, was completed under contract with the Maine Electric Co. ; full settlement has not been made on account of the failure of these cranes to satisfactorily perform all functions in accordance with the specifications. | | Contract was entered into with the Central American Construction — Co. (Ltd.) to erect a new station at Panama, amounting to $81,688. This work has progressed during the year, and it is expected it will be complete and ready for occupancy by October 1, 19138. Work was practically completed on the installation of the single leaf, movable span, or bascule, at Bridge 140, Gatun River, Monte Lirio. This work was performed by the bridge and building forces of this department and charged to relocation account, Isthmian Canal Commission. The lifting mechanism was designed by the Strauss Bascule Bridge Co., of Chicago, Ill., and the material was supplied under a contract with the Penn Bridge Co., of Beaver Falls, Pa., in the amount of $24 390.02. | This subdepartment is also charged with the general maintenance of all buildings pertaining to the operated line, repairs to quarters, | Colon and Panama; also repairs to cold-storage plant operated by the subsistence department of the commission at Cristobal. During the fiscal year work was begun upon railroad and bridge connecting Cristobal yard with site of coaling plant.
