Pursuant to authority vested. in the National Industrial
Recovery Board under Title I of the rTatio",l Industrial
Recovery Act by Executive Orders of the President, in-
cluding Executive Order No. 6859, .,dated September 27,
1934, and otherwise, it is hereby ordered that provisions in
codes which extend the a---,lication of minimum hourly
rates of pa-y established tiierein to errployees engaed
on a piece-wor:k basis be nnd they hereby are intreoproted
as follows:

Under any such provision in any code, a.n employer shall
compute the minimum compensation "ayable to each piece-
work m.loyee on the basis of a :-)eriod of not more th.n
seven consecutive days. Each crm-loycr shall pay to each
of his piece-work employees for work perforw,,edJ by said
employ.: durin- such period an -mount not less than the
product of the minimum hourly rate proscribed in said
code multiplied by the n-mber of hours worked by said
erT loye- during such period.

If any such provision in a code as thus op- lied should
work hm.rdshi- in any case by reason of -,eculiar circum-
stances or methods, of operation, the employer affected
thereby may .p,"ly for an exenmotion to such provision.

the Construction Industr'y Mleeting at Knoxville, Tenn., Arthur
D. VWh.iteside, feribmoer of the National In'ustrial Recovery
Boar, said, "It appea-rs inevitable that the major provisions
of the :TIIFA in some form will become a perra-nent prt of our
economic legislationn" Mr. 7h'itoside .also said that
modifications of the provisions will be overned larrgely by
the actual -. suits obtained throuj;h the efforts of the IT:RA
up to this time and for the next few weeks.
