Page 8 The Jewish Floridian and Shofar of Greater Hollywood Friday, September 7, 1979 Special Weekend Set for Temple Sinai Friday evening, Sept. 7, marks the beginning of a three-day weekend with special guests and events at Temple Sinai, Holly- wood. Services will take place in the main sanctuary at 8 p.m. with Rabbi Seymour Friedman of- ficiating and Cantor Naftaly A. Linkovsky chanting the liturgy. Special speaker for this Friday evening will be Henry Sender, president of the Southeast Region of the United Synagogue of America. Flowers gracing the pulpit have been sponsored by Mrs. Louis Garber in memory of her husband. Saturday morning services will begin at 9 a.m. with Rabbi Friedman conducting the service and Cantor Linkovsky chanting the prayers. The sermon will be delivered by Rabbi Benjamin Z. Kreitman, executive vice president of the United Synagogue of America. The con- gregation will be addressed by Simon Schwartz, president of the United Synagogue of America. A special Kiddush following the service in honor of the event will be sponsored by Temple Sinai. Hollywood JCC Announces Preview of Fall Programs The Hollywood Jewish Community Center begins fall program registration Monday, Sept. 10. at its 2838 Hollywood Blvd. building for the new programs offered this fall. The center also previews its programming next Monday through Thursday evenings during its 'Welcome Week" and on Sunday, Sept. 16 with a family Open House" at Hollywood Hills Elementary School. The JCC is now offering its largest program since its opening in 1973. The special program on Sept. 16 will be from 1-4 p.m. and feature information on programs for all ages and categories offered this fall. Most of the course instructors will be present to answer questions and to demonstrate what will be learned through their program. Entertainment will be offered by Bill Swaim and his Blue Grass Band. There also will be Israeli music by Ron Ezry and Disco demonstration. All are welcome. "Welcome week" will highlight new programs during the week of Sept. 10 13. Monday night will offer information on children's programs; Tuesday will be teen program night; Wednesday, family life and senior adult night; and Thursday, adult program night. These activities begin at 8 a.m. The center offers new programs such as a special studies program (elementary- aged tutorial service), parent-tot recreation. Jewish crafts, sculpture, drawing and painting, cartooning all for younger children: for teens, a new pilot project "Big Brothers-Big Sisters" with children from single parent families, a new Spanish enrichment program to better acquaint teens with Latin traditions; a new teen musical workshop with a community presentation performed on Nov. G; special new sports programs in soccer, flag football, and T BAU; adults, bridge. Spanish, women's awareness seminar, disco, diet workshop and "dance-a-cize." The JCC also will sponsor a family life series on PET, teen lUMertfveMM. the single parent and his child, and couples' loinmunications workshop. SAT Preparatory Course Offered The Hollywood Jewish Community Center will once again offer an SAT Preparatory Course for high school seniors and juniors, in order to prepare them for this test. This course offers 16 hours of instruction in order to help students prepare both psychologically and intellectually for the SATs. The course is offered at the Hollywood JCC. 2838 Hollywood Blvd., starting on Tuesday, Sept. 18, and continuing on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Oct. 11. The course is offered through Irwin Katz, educational con- sultants. The course is coor- dinated by Dr. Mary Butterneld. Sunday installation ceremony for Rabbi Friedman will begin at 2 p.m. with the installing officer, Rabbi Yaakov G. Rosenberg, vice chancellor of the Jewish Theo- logical Seminary.
