1) Lag B’Omer means the thirty-third day of the counting of the Omer
(Sephirah). During the Sephirah days we refrain from holding festive celebrations
because many sad memories of oppressive treatment of the Jews during this
period of the year in the days of the Romans, and also in the later Middle Ages.
On Lag B’Omer these restriction are suspended.
