Of the cell phenotypes described below, the only one that contained labelled nuclei was the A2B5(-) flat cell. This demonstrates that new DNA synthesis is not required for either recruitment of A2B5(+) cells from A2B5(-) cells or their differentiation. Similarly, cells that developed into neurons or oligodendrocytes did not need new DNA synthesis in culture.
